President Joe Biden addressed Walt Disney Company,
Netflix, Google, Fox Corporation, and other private firms about requiring new
vaccines for their employees, Deadline reported.
While referring to the worrisome spike of Covid-19 cases as
a "pandemic of the unvaccinated," the president also tried to call
out big businesses that have implemented their sorts of mandates in recent
weeks.
Moreover, New York City also requires evidence of
vaccination for many indoor locations, private businesses have also begun to
implement new vaccination rules.
“The private sector is stepping up as well,” Biden said in
his remarks on August 3. “Even Fox has vaccination requirements. I want to
thank Walmart, Google, Netflix, Disney, Tyson Foods for their recent actions
requiring vaccinations for employees.
“Look, I know this isn’t easy, but I will have their backs
and the backs of other private and public sector leaders if they take such
steps,” he added.
Employees of Fox Corp. in the U.S. who have not been vaccinated
would be subject to several workplace restrictions, including social distance
and mask-wearing. Those who have been vaccinated will not be subject to the
same restrictions provided they register their vaccination status into the
company's employee portal Workday.
Netflix announced a vaccination mandate for cast members on
its projects last week, while The Walt Disney Company established a policy
requiring all paid and non-union hourly employees in the U.S. to be completely
vaccinated.
According to the most recent CDC rankings, McDonald's,
Target and Kohl's are the newest companies to mandate masks for store
personnel in locations where individuals are at high risk for Covid-19.
Biden said, “we’re going to see covid-19 cases rise in the
weeks ahead — a largely preventable tragedy that will get worse before it gets
better.”
“It’s moving like wildfire through the unvaccinated
community. And it’s heartbreaking,
particularly because it’s preventable,” he said. “That’s why we’re doing
everything we can to get more people vaccinated. And we’re seeing real results.”
In his remarks, Biden pointed out that the country witnessed
a 55 percent rise in the average number of new persons being vaccinated every
day over the last two weeks.
Almost 3 million Americans have received their first
vaccination in the last seven days alone. This is the month's highest seven-day
total.
