Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, confirmed that the electric carmaker would host a Model S Plaid delivery event on June 3.

Musk announced on Twitter that the event would take place at the Fremont factory in California. According to Musk, the four-door electric sedan would be the fastest production vehicle, which can go from 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds.

The Model S Plaid is an improved model of the company's flagship battery-electric sedan, which has been in production since 2012.

The Model S Plaid will feature a new powertrain as well as a redesigned interior and exterior. The vehicle's release date was originally scheduled for February, but it was moved back due to a global shortage of computer chips.

The car will have a range of 520 miles, which is far above from Tesla's top range models and will cost $139,990.

Musk mentioned during the quarterly earnings call that the Model S Plaid was already in development. In February, he announced on an episode of the influential podcast "The Joe Rogan Experience" that the Model S Plaid will begin shipping in February, praising its broader wheelbase and acceleration, and describing the car as "uncomfortably swift."

At Tesla's quarterly meeting last month, Musk told investors that pandemic supply chain problems had created "insane difficulties."

Following those assurances, Tesla announced in its first-quarter vehicle production and deliveries report that it did not manufacture a single Model S or Model X during the first three months of the year.

According to Tesla's website, Plaid Model S deliveries are scheduled for "August-September," while Plaid Model X deliveries are scheduled for "January-February" 2022. Plaid Plus models of both cars, with a 520-mile range, aren't anticipated until "mid-2022."

Tesla enthusiasts have been disappointed by the delays, but it has not pushed them away entirely.
