Zelensky asks EU to prove that they are with Ukraine

European Council President said Ukraine’s EU membership bid should be considered immediately

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a video address to the European Parliament asking them for help as Russia continues attacking Ukraine.

“We are giving our lives for the right to be equal,” Zelensky told the special session of the EU’s legislature.

“Prove that you are with us and will not let us go.”

The Ukrainian leader was seen unshaved and in a green army T-shirt in the video with the country’s flag.

“I don’t read off the sheet because the paper phase in the life of my country has ended,” he said in a seven-minute long video.

“We’re dealing with killed people, with real life, you know?”

EU membership

European Council President Charles Michel, who represents the leaders of the 27 EU countries, said Ukraine’s request to be a candidate for EU membership should be considered immediately.

EU officials, whose approval would be required, discussed Ukraine’s EU bid on Monday.

Zelensky also said that two cruise missiles had hit Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv on Tuesday morning.

Dozens of people have been killed including 16 children on Monday even though Russian President Vladimir Putin assured that his forces are only targeting military installations and infrastructure, he added.

“Where are our children? What kind of military factories do they work at?” Zelensky said.

“He (Putin) killed 16 people just yesterday,” he said.

“We are fighting for our rights. For our freedom. For our lives,” Zelensky said.

“And now we are fighting for our survival.”
